How MySecureSend works

Send password-protected files from your own email. The password arrives by SMS - two separate channels for maximum security.

3 simple steps

STEP 01

Upload your file

Drag and drop any file type - PDF, Word, Excel, images, and more. Up to 25MB per file.

STEP 02

Enter recipient details

Enter the recipient's email address and mobile number. The file goes to their email; the password goes to their phone.

STEP 03

File sent encrypted, password by SMS

The file arrives password-protected via AES-256 encryption. A separate SMS delivers the key. Two channels - two layers of security.

What your recipient sees

An email arrives from your own Gmail or Outlook 365 address - not a third-party relay.

The attachment is password-protected (PDF, Office document, or ZIP archive depending on file type).

A separate SMS arrives with the password - completely independent of the email channel.

Note:Gmail may show a security warning on encrypted attachments - this is expected and confirms encryption is working. The recipient should click “Download anyway” to proceed.

How to connect your email

Connect Gmail

  1. 1Go to Domains in your dashboard
  2. 2Click "Connect Gmail"
  3. 3Sign in with your Google account - done

Connect Outlook 365

  2. 2Click "Connect Outlook 365"
  3. 3Sign in with your Microsoft account - done

Opening your secure files

Standard file types such as PDF, Word, and Excel documents are encrypted natively and open directly with the password.

Other file types arrive as AES-256 encrypted .zip attachments which require a compatible extraction tool to open.

Windows

7-Zip (free, 7-zip.org) or WinRAR

Windows built-in extraction does not support AES-256 encrypted zips

Mac

The Unarchiver (free) or Keka

Mobile

Files app on iOS supports encrypted zips natively. Android users may need ZArchiver or similar.

Once installed, right-click the zip file → Extract → enter the password from your SMS when prompted.

Frequently asked questions

What encryption does MySecureSend use?

AES-256 - the same standard used by banks, governments and defence agencies worldwide. PDF files are encrypted natively; Office documents use msoffcrypto; all other files are zipped with AES-256 via pyzipper.

Where is my data stored?

Australia only. Our servers are located in Sydney (AWS ap-southeast-2). Your data never leaves Australia.

No. Files are encrypted in-memory and immediately discarded after sending. MySecureSend has zero file retention - nothing is stored on our servers at any point.

The SMS hasn't arrived - what should I check?

Check the recipient's number includes the country code (e.g. +61 for Australia). If it still hasn't arrived after 5 minutes, contact support@mysecuresend.com.au.

Is this compliant with the Australian Privacy Act?

Yes - MySecureSend supports Privacy Act compliance via: PII subject line redaction (18 identifier categories), zero file storage, Australian data residency, and a tamper-evident audit trail.
